2008 Milan Design Week - Spiral Island Collection

At the 2008 Milan Design Week there were some cool items and I felt obliged to show you just a few from Milan. Today, I present you the Spiral Island Collection designed by David Trubridge, one of the most renowned green designers. The Island consists of lamps which float above the colorful seatings.

The fasteners of the seatings are made from aluminum and those PETG strips are recyclable, but Trubridge says that they aren’t complete without the PLA plastic (destined to add cradle-to-cradle capability for the seats) currently pending to become available in sheets. Also, the wood used for the Spiral seats comes from the government of Australia which controls the wood sources.

The lighting fixtures were inspired from a Maori word, Aotearoa, which means “land of the long white cloud”. The designer is familiar with Maori because he is from New Zealand therefore he was lucky to find the perfect words.
